Video: The most important work I’ve embarked on
In June of 2011 I moved to New York City with my closest friend and film partner to make a documentary at a school in Harlem, New York. Over the next year I will be documenting “The Turnaround” at the new Harlem Prep Charter School. Mandated to close after failing its students for a decade, the former Harlem Day Charter School is now in the process of being transformed by the highly successful Democracy Prep Public Schools charter school network. As the turnaround at Harlem Prep gets underway the promise of an excellent education looks to be fulfilled. Over the next year I will document the transformation and see the incredible things happening inside the new Harlem Prep Charter School. This is the most important work I’ve embarked on as I believe education is the civil rights movement of my generation. In to many places in America children are not getting the education they deserve, for me to document a school that is on the forefront of education reform and making huge progress to change this is truly amazing. Everyday I get to mix my passion to create with doing doing what is the right. I can honestly say there is no better feeling.
