Obama on Student Loan Debt
As a recent college graduate from the University of Colorado at Boulder, I feel fortunate and privileged to have been able to go to college and be a first generation college graduate. When you are getting close to graduating fears arise, and I always remember my friends and I talking about when our student loans kick in how broke we were going to be. We would be half playful and half serious. It’s a burden that weighs very heavily on a majority of students including myself. Recently President Obama spoke about student debt and will be touring college campuses to speak on this issue. I am very glad he is taking a position on this, I do agree that higher education is not a luxury, it is a right and we have to ensure that people are getting the opportunities to educate themselves and not fearing that they are going to be buried in debt. In this video you will see President Obama call on Congress to act before student loan interest rates double for more than 7.4 million students, adding an average of $1000 to their debt.
