Inspiration: Maria Guerra: Mother, Soldier, Woman
One of my closest friends Brandon Cruz shot an inspiring piece featuring Sergeant First Class Maria Guerra, US Army. SFC Maria Guerra was the Non Commissioned Officer in charge of the Medical Building on the Fort Hood Military base that was attacked by one of its own Army psychiatrists. The tragedy received national coverage and was dubbed “The Fort Hood Massacre”. I was so moved by this piece I had to post it, as someone who has a father that was in the Army for over twenty years and has a brother in the Marines I am so appreciative of men and women who serve. I think here in the states we forget that there are people who are willing to sacrifice and do the tasks that others don’t want to to do, we should at times take a moment to think about that…. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of lost soldiers from November 5th, 2009 at Ford Hood. To SFC Maria Guerra and all men in women in the armed service domestic and abroad, my deepest thanks and regard.

My Sister Jessica sent this link to me via facebook, this is the first time I watched this video of myself since the night I was presented with the award. Thank you for posting and your kind words, there is so much I want to say about that day unfortunatley I cannot atleast not until after the trial. I do want people to know that I could not have taken action like I did without my staff staying back with me, they looked to me to lead them as I did everyday prior to that tragic day. My staff are all hero’s, and there are stories that have not been told or made public, and that is very unfortunate. I am currently deployed in Baghdad, Iraq and I am struggling with guilt of being away from my daughter who just turned 7 and my son who just turned 4, what keeps me going is the love I have for My Family and My Country, I am proud to be an American Soldier fighting for the freedoms of all Americans. Thank you again for reminding me why I do what I do.
